Mauritius Scoops “World’s Best Island Destination” at the 2010 World Travel Awards

Mauritius was crowned the world’s best island destination during the 2010 World Travel Awards, the tourism equivalent of Hollywood’s Academy Awards (The Oscars).

It was a fierce competition this year, with other islands (e.g. Seychelles, Maldives, Cook Islands...etc) competing for the crown, but we came on top after thousand of tourism professionals and tourists from all around the world voted for us.

We’d like to thank all those who voted and supported us; we’d also like to thank the 30,000 individuals working in the tourism sector in Mauritius. We wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for you.

الغوص

هناك 52 مركزاً للغوص في موريشيوس بالإضافة إلى 3 في رودريغز. تدير هذه المراكز أعمالها في 35 موقعاً للغوص في موريشيوس و11 موقعاً في رودريغز. من هذه المواقع في موريشيوس: كوين دي مير (الشمال)، باس سان جاك (الجنوب)، باس دو بويتس (الشرق) وكاثيدرال (الجنوب). أما مواقع رودريغز فتتضمن كانيون، باس سان فرنسوا وترو دي بايرتس.

القفز بالمظلات من الأنشطة الجديدة في موريشيوس.سيتمكن محبي الرياضات الشيقة من الإستمتاع بالقفز بالمظلات والإستمتاع بمناظر خلابة للجزيرة من الجو.

 الصيد في أعماق البحار

يمكن الصيد في أعماق البحار بين نوفمبر وأبريل. تتضمن فصائل الأسماك المتواجدة في موريشيوس المارلين الأسود، القروش، التونا والبونيتو. ويمكن إستئجار قوارب الصيد من معظم الفنادق كما أن هناك العديد من مسابقات الصيد المنتظمة على مدار العام. من أهمها كأس العالم للمارلين، والمقام في ديسمبر. من مراكز الصيد الرئيسية في موريشيوس ريفير-نوير، لي مورن وغراند باي

In our last blog, we suggested places and activities for those looking for peace and quiet in Mauritius. However, the island is much more than just a pretty face. Welcome to the wild and exciting side of Mauritius.


Diving
All you need to enjoy the exquisite underwater life of Mauritius is a swim-suit! But if you are more on the hardcore side of diving, then you might want to enjoy the marine environment with skin-diving masks and flippers, scuba diving equipment, small discovery submarines and sub-scooters. Diving in Mauritius is one of many pleasurable natural experiences, as marine life conceals countless beautiful creatures and underwater landscapes, be it the crystal-clear lagoons or the magnificent coral beds that are inhabited by bright colourful fish and moray eels.
There are 52 diving centres in Mauritius operating on 35 diving sites around the island. These sites include Coin de Mire (North), Passe Saint-Jacques (South), Passe du
Puits (East) and Cathedral (West). On the North coast and the East coast, there are specialized centers for nondivers who want to enjoy underwater life through undersea walks, sub scooter excursions or submarine trips.

Sky diving

Nothing screams ‘Extreme’ louder than plane engines flying at over 15,000 feet. That’s the usual height for sky diving. Sky diving is a new activity in Mauritius, giving visitors the chance to enjoy the magnificent views of the islands while experiencing one of the most exhilarating feeling in the world.

Deep sea fishing
There are countless fish species that can be found in Mauritius including blue and black marlins, sharks, tuna and bonito. Fishing boats can be hired from most of the hotels around the island. You can also participate in one of many deep sea fishing competitions that are held annually. The main fishing centres are in Rivière-Noire, Le Morne, Flic-en-Flac, Trou-aux-Biches and Grand-Baie.

Whether you’re there to relax and enjoy the scenery or you’re seeking an exhilarating vacation filled with Adrenaline-pumping activities, Mauritius has something specific for you.

سواء كنتم من محبي التنزه، تسلق الجبال أو مجرد الإسترخاء على الشاطئ، فلدى موريشويس ما يلبي جميع ما تريدونه:

الشمال

شمال موريشيوس من أول المناطق في الجزيرة التي رحبت بالسياح ومازالت توفر لهم العديد من خيارات الإقامة، المطاعم، الرياضات المائية والترفيه بالإضافة إلى التسوق.

من أشهر المواقع هناك غراند باي، وهو المكان الذي يقصده سكان موريشيوس للإستمتاع بالحياة الليلية. تتراوح خيارات الإقامة بين فنادق فخمة إلى فنادق صغيرة وبيوت الضيوف. كما أن غراند باي من أفضل بقع الإبحار على الجزيرة والإستمتاع بالرياضات البحرية العديدة.

الشرق

تقع أفضل الشواطئ في موريشيوس في الجزء الشرقي من الجزيرة، من بلو باي وحياته البحرية الغنية إلى الشواطئ الرملية النقية لبيلي ماري وترو دي دو التي تعتبر أفضل نقطة إنطلاق للجزر الصغيرة.

تقع قرية ماهيبورغ على غراند باي، وقد تم سميت تيمناً بالحاكم الفرنسي ماهي دي لابوردونناي. ومن المواقع المهمة هناك متحف التاريخ الوطني.

الجنوب والمناطق الداخلية

تكشف هذه المناطق تضاريس مختلفة عن باقي الجزيرة. غري-غري واحدة من الأماكن القليلة على الجزيرو حيث تلتقي أمواج البحر مع المنحدرات الصخرية. كما تتواجد هناك قرى سويلاك وريامبيل التقليدية.

يعتبر مركز الجزيرة موطناً للبركان الخامد ترو أو سيرف بالإضافة إلى كيوربايب، أحد المراكز التجاربية الرئيسية على الجزيرة. كما يحتوي مركز الجزيرة على موقع غانغا تالاوفيسيت، وهو موقع هندوسي رائع يجتمع فيه الهندوس في فبراير من كل عام للإحتفال بمهرجان ماها شيفراتي.

الغرب والجنوب الغربي

ستروق المناطق الغربية والجنوب غربية لعشاق الرياضة والمغامرات. فشاطئ فلي-إين-فلا موطن للعديد من النشاطات البحرية خلال عطلات نهاية الأسبوع. كما تم تحويل كل من قريتي الصيد غراند ريفيرا والتمارين إلى فلل فاخرة. وتوفر لي مورن كيلومترات عديدة من الشواطئ المناسبة للتمتع بأشعة الشمس والسباحة في ظل أحد أروع الجبال في موريشيوس. وتتمتع شبه الجزيرة بأفضل مواقع الركمجة والتي تجذب محبي الرياضات المائية من جميع أنحاء الجزيرة. كما أن هذا الجزء من الجزير موقع لحديقة بلاك ريفير الوطنية والتي تعتبر أكبر محمية طبيعية على الجزيرة.

The North

The North of Mauritius was one of the first areas of the island to welcome tourists and still offers a great range of accommodation and restaurants, water sports facilities, great shopping opportunities and entertainment. The most renowned place is Grand Bay, the place where Mauritians head to for a

night out, and accommodation there ranges from luxury resorts to small holiday hotels and even guesthouses. The bay is also one of the favourite anchoring places for sailboats and the meeting point for day excursions on the islets around the main land. Other places of interest are Trou aux Biches, Pereybere and Cap Malheureux, with its red roofed church or Balaclava and its luxury hotels.

The East

Some of the best beaches of Mauritius are on the east coast, from Blue Bay and its marine reserve to the sandy beaches of Belle Mare and Trou d’Eau Douce. One of the main sites is the National History Museum at Vieux Grand Port, the oldest settlements in Mauritius, where there are the ruins of the first Dutch fortifications.

The South and inland

This region reveals a different landscape from the rest of the island. Gris-Gris is one of the few places around the island, where the waves crash against the cliffs, while the centre of the island is home to Trou aux CerfsThis an extinct volcano. The center of the island is also home to Curepipe, one of the main commercial centres with good shops and restaurants. This region is also the site of Ganga TalaoVisit, a spectacular religious site where Hindus gather in February for the Maha Shivratree festival.

The West & South West

The west and south west is the land of adventure for nature and sport lovers. Flic en Flac has white beaches fringed with filaos or Casuarinas trees and is a popular place for weekend beach activities. Grande Rivière Noire and Tamarin were fishing villages that have been transformed with luxury villas. Le Morne, including its World Heritage Site, offers kilometres of beach for tanning and swimming, at the foot of a most stunning mountain backdrop. The Peninsula boasts some of the best surfing spots, attracting the most talented kite and body surfers from all over the island. The National Park of Black River is the biggest natural reserve on the island.
